Buttons & Brogues

Winter, as everyone knows, means big chunky knitwear :)  I have a bit of an obsession with oversized cable knit things at the moment, especially heavy cream cardigans with old leather buttons.  I'm forever finding gorgeous cardigans (and buying all of them) in charity shops / car boots / ASOS Marketplace/ Etsy, and then having to find enough old matching leather buttons to replace the ones the cardigan came with.  Both of these originally had cream plastic buttons...I just love how the cream & leather looks.

 

 

Then I found a beautiful raspberry cardigan on ASOS Marketplace (I've since branched out into other coloured cardigans too).  The oxblood / maroon / dark red trend that is around this winter is one of my favorite colours.  But my lovely new cardigan had horrible plastic metal-look buttons.  And they were small, and there was 9 of them - an akward number of buttons to replace!

 



Finally I found the perfect buttons in a charity shop in Dorchester - material covered, cream with red flowers!  What do you think? :)

 

I didn't pick up much at Yeovil Showground Car Boot this past weekend, but I did get lots of compliments on my big brown hat.  One woman asked if it was Laura Ashley, as it was just like one she'd bought for £60-odd years ago.  There's no label in it so I don't have an answer, but I did tell her I'd bought it for 50p at the same car boot the week before ;)

I'll let you know how the Macadamia Oil does - I've got naturally curly hair thats somewhat dry the day I wash it, and oily by the following day.  I've been told by several people that Moroccan Oil is the way to go, despite the price.  Macadamia Oil seems to be quite similar, so fingers crossed!  Does anyone prefer, or hate, one over the other?

Cream Egg Crackle

The other week I picked up a crackle nail polish at the car boot; W7's deep purple.  I've never really known what to make of the crackle polish thing - I think it looks fab, but I'm very partial to simple glossy dark nails.  I rarely wear light or bright colours anymore.  But, being a beautiful metallic purple and only 50p, I though I'd give it a go.

 



 

For the undercolour I used Tangerine by Barry M, and for the topcoat Collection 2000 2in1 topcoat (only 2.99, and I find it much better than some of the more expensive brands).





 

 



 

I like it, reminds me of the Cadburys Creme Egg wrapper!  Takes a bit of practice to get a nice crackle though, a thinner coat does't show the purple too well.  A a topcoat (that I normally don't use, I just tip whatever colour I'm wearing) is a must I found, brings out the metallic of the purple.

 

Overall though, I'm glad I didn't by a crackle full price.  I like the look, but I certainly won't be wearing it very often, too busy for my nails :)

Sunshine & Shoes

What's happened to the weather!?  Yesterday was a beautiful autumnal day here in the south of England - crisp air, blue skies and such warm sunshine I went out without a coat on! My favorite kind of day, and probably one of the last few this time of year I can get away with a dress :)

So as is customary on Sundays, I headed over to the car boot at Yeovil Showground, armed with my little vintage totes. I managed to fill them plus two carrier bags (this makes me kind of sad, I don't like using plastic bags).
